Stahl Small Block Sidepipe
Header Installation

3/19/2002

Dave Herlinger of Corvette Repair is installing these custom made Stahl side pipe headers. These headers were made specifically for my motor combination. Jere Stahl asked for all the technical data on my engine, including head flow numbers, cam specs, dyno pulls etc...

The headers are setup with 1.75" primaries and a slip fit for the 3" collector extensions and tips. The concept is to allow me to easily change from a street configuration to a track setup by slipping on a pair of mufflers or open pipe setup as required.

This really is a trick setup and I have high hopes that the dual street-strip setup will both save my ears on the road and post the numbers at the drags.

The pipes are only painted silver at this point. Dave will be installing the pipes and getting the system dialed in prior to the entire system being sent out to be Jethot coated with their Sterling coating.

More photos of the header installation are coming as it happens.

These are the pipes in the "strip" configuration with the custom made
slip fit collector extensions and slip fit flared tips. Everything is 3".

From the front.

The flanges and pipes are setup for straight plug heads. Stahl also
port matched the flanges and pipes to the exhaust ports on the
heads. Now that is attention to detail.

The slip on muffler is a Shoenfeld race muffler. I'll see how loud
these are and order a quieter pair for the street if necessary,
otherwise these will be cleaned up and sent off for coating.

Stahl's address and phone number is on every pair of pipes.

Each pair of headers has a serial number. Stahl has a record of every
pair of headers he has ever made since the early '60s and the engine
the headers were were made for. That must be some treasure trove...
